About the Indexing Glossary
Published · By IndexChex
In brief
The Indexing Glossary is published by IndexChex, a backlink indexing and index checking service. It defines crawling, indexing and backlink indexing terms in neutral language, checks statements about Google against Google's own documentation, and accepts corrections at support@indexchex.com.
What this site covers
This site is a dictionary for people who work on getting pages into Google: SEO practitioners, link builders and site owners. Entries cover the stages of Search, the Search Console labels that describe them, the directives that control crawlers, and the tools sold around them, such as the backlink indexer. The A-Z directory lists every term.
Ownership
The glossary is published by IndexChex, which sells a backlink indexer and bulk Google index checker. That is a commercial interest in the subject, and it is disclosed on every page. IndexChex is mentioned where it is a relevant example; entries are written to be accurate whichever tool a reader uses. The site is part of the IndexChex reference network.
Editorial policy
- Sources. Statements about how Google crawls, indexes and reports pages are checked against Google Search Central and Search Console Help pages, which are linked on each entry. Search Console status names are copied from Google's Page indexing report documentation.
- Measured claims. Performance figures for IndexChex come only from its weekly measurement on recurring URL sets, are dated, and are presented as averages, never guarantees.
- Competitors. Facts about other services appear only with a source and the date they were checked.
- Neutral language. Entries avoid promotional wording and do not claim any tool guarantees indexing.
Corrections
Errors and outdated definitions can be reported to support@indexchex.com. Please include the entry URL and, for statements about Google, a link to the Google documentation that contradicts the entry. Corrected entries keep their URL, and the date on the page is updated when the substance of a definition changes.
How to cite
Each entry includes a "Cite this entry" block. A general form is: "Term." Indexing Glossary, IndexChex, 8 October 2026, indexingglossary.com/term.
